The Roman Empire at its height spanned the entire Mediterranean Sea. But it’s trade routes went out even further. The Vele Romane Award from IK3GER is awarded to Amateur Radio operators who make contact with countries and regions taking part in this trade.

For the purposes of this award, Paolo (IK3GER) has defined 66 entities. Most of these entities are DXCC countries, but there are also regions and islands of Italy that count separately. To receive the award you need to confirm contacts with 55 of the 66 entities listed.
Endorsements may be requested for specific modes or bands.
The certificate includes a map of the Mediterranean Sea and outer areas. It shows trade routes connecting Rome with the rest of the area and highlights many ports along the coasts.
You do not need to send in QSL cards with your application. Confirmations via eQSL and LoTW are all acceptable.
Like other awards from IK3GER, there is no cost for the Vele Romane Award. It’s delivered as a PDF file although a JPG version is also available upon request. You need only provide a list of contact information in a spreadsheet form and email it to Paolo at the email address in the award rules.
