I helped out the Valley of the Moon Amateur Radio Club‘s Field Day effort in 2026. Once again we mounted a 3A entry here in the San Francisco section. Two transmitters were connected to triband beams and the third utilized either a dipole or an R7 vertical.
Despite not burning the midnight oil while operating well into the darkness of night, the club managed what will likely be it’s best effort ever. Normally we manage somewhere around 400-450 contacts, but a preliminary count shows we made around 650 this year. This despite conditions not being too great. For example, 10M was largely dead. I’ll update this once I get our officially submitted score.

The entirety of the W6AJF Field Day setup at Sonoma Skypark. The two beams are clearly visible. The dipole was strung between the towers. The tower closest in the photo is the club’s mobile tower.
Carl (N6TTV) operating the radio on 15M looking out over a fine Sonoma vineyard. The tower supporting the beam is a military surplus piece of equipment that consists of hollow tubes.

Bruce (KB6ZA) and Ed (W1EJ) operate one of the club’s three radios. Probably on 20M
Mike (WB6TMH) operates while Don (KO6DXF) and Kevin (K0SQ) look on. Dave (KD6FIL) and Carl (N6TTV) loom in the distance.

Dave (KD6FIL) looks like he is having way too much fun operating Field Day.
As is tradition, the club puts on a fine potluck dinner on Saturday evening. This was held in the Sonoma Skypark dining facility.
